About Peter Velders

About me

My name is Peter Velders and I make film material from Touchable Video with passion. In my many years of experience in the coaching and film world, I have provided many coaches and students with valuable video material. On this page I tell about myself and how Touchablevideo came about.

A life-full of strategies

Earlier in my life I had no idea about managing stress. Since I can remember, I used – and that I can now recognize – all sorts of strategies in order to protect my own world. I think a lot of people are familiar with this way of living, especially those who can sense how others are feeling, even when the others only show their Sunny side.

Dealing with risks

Anyway, I went off to sea at an early age. In that man’s world the rest of the world opened up some more for me. When I met my wife, I wanted to settle down and have a home and family, and I began working for security at a ligistics service. I have driven armored trucks for cash and valuable transportation and have been coordinator. Most of all, I have learned how this sort of risky and dangerous work affected the employees, as well as how often the management closed its eyes to those effects.

Peter Levine

Fortunately, Peter Levine, the developer of Somatic Experiencing (body directed trauma therapy), then came along my path.
Since then, I haven’t stopped learning about this way of stress management. It is so comprehensible, so logical. It’s listening to your body, and it does everone so much good.

camera Lights

Eyes and lenses

The way I continued learning is somewhat special: I became a cameraman. From behind the camera I could calmly watch and, in fact, I’ve followed the three-year study five times, I have seen many internationally recognized teachers at work, and supported their classes with my camerawork. In the meantime, I have been asked to do this specific video-camerawork internationally, and I belong not only Peter Levine’s team, but to that of William Emerson, an expert in birth traumas. As cameraman I support the teachers and students of these trainings.

My inspiration

I serve the mission of Peter Levine and any thereby related education. He is , as far as I’m concerned, the doorknob and the door, which you can open with guidance. He brings us in connection with our sensation level. He himself says about that: “I bring along some extra, because you’re already doing everything, but you’ve been doing it without sensations(s). With sensation experience your entire experience changes. Everything suddenly has meaning and significance”. If Many people could do that, the level of fear would lower for everyone. When I film, I feel how I support the field and at the same time can alleviate possible restlessness/commotion. And that is how I wish to contribute to the reduction of stress and fear in the woruld.
